We were able to reduce the time-to-market by completing prototype development within only three months. Further we accomplished freeing up internal resources within BK Medical.
The Solution
Development began internally at Axcon to allow BK Medical to focus on other important projects. For this project agreement, we wrote the necessary software in our own offices while cooperating and communicating with the BK Medical software team to assure a smooth integration upon completion.
Axcon's role
We developed a graphics accelerator for BK Medical's ultrasound scanner as a plugin module for an existing scanner. The hardware we developed was a "hefty" embedded system with a double TI DSP design (GHz+) with DDR-II memory, multi-gigabit links among the DSP's, and PCI interface.
BK Medical's advantage
BK Medical was able to focus on their core strengths while we took over a specific portion of their project. The project was completed in a timely manner despite the fact that BK Medical's resources were limited. The completion of the first prototype occurred within two days of our original predicted timeline, which had been drawn up 3 months earlier. This prototype provided the software team with a platform for further integration on a system level.
